Looking to unwind? We’ve got you covered with the best bars in Brisbane.
You’re in luck! Brisbane’s bar scene is healthy and vibrant. And contrary to popular belief, fortitude valley isn’t the only precinct with decent nightlife. Great bars in the city, are well spread out across its expanse. Some like the Gresham needs no introducing. Be that as it may, sometimes, the best spots are hidden and less known. In this article, we explore the entire spectrum.
As for our criteria, although we relied on reviews, that wasn’t all we looked at. To a large extent, the appeal of a bar is a matter of personal preference. It’s also true that a bar with the best brew, won’t necessarily end up having the most conducive mood. We had to do a tough balancing act between the brew, the atmosphere, the bartender and mass reviews.
With that out of the way also note that this article is intended more for those looking to simply drink, than for those looking for great nightlife spots. Look out for our best nightlife spots in Brisbane article. Tke a look.
1. The Gresham
The Gresham is located on Queens Street (running parallel to Burnett lane). Since its opening in 2013, The Gresham has quickly risen to the point that many critics argue that this establishment is on a class of its own. That opinion would not be unwarranted. Since it opened its doors, it has consistently featured among the best bars in Australia. This trend continued in 2019 with the bar winning several awards from the Australian Bartender Magazine. Visit the Magazines website to learn more.
Now, the Gresham doesn’t specialize in any one alcoholic beverage. It, however, offers them all and does so to a standard that rivals any other in the country. It’s also good to note that it is the only Heritage Bar License holder in the state.
What of the mood? The Gresham’s mood is set by the establishment its housed in. The Gresham Hotel is one of the rare buildings that are stuck somewhere between the past and present. The bar responds to this.
Address: 308 Queen St Brisbane 4000

2. Little Big House
Defying anything its name connotes, the Little Big House is located in a renovated police station. Imagine that! But never mind, quite contrary to is thin blue line past, this establishment is much more permissive. Lighthearted, vibrant and easy-going is how I’d describe it. It’s also a jack of all trades. You can have your cocktails, beer, spirits- everything.
Little Big House has something for everyone. Drunk musician, check; it has a karaoke machine. Sports watcher, check; the large screen won’t disappoint. Sit and drink, check; tables a-plenty. And of course, food too is ample and restaurant quality.
What of the view, when you step out onto the balconies expect a view of a budding precinct South Point. Expect also gentle river breezes.

3. Savile Row
Saville Row is located on Ann Street, in Brisbane CBD and is one of the Fortitude Hill’s gems, Savile Row exudes class and opulence. I couldn’t even bring myself to call it a watering hole. The decor including dramatically huge low hanging chandeliers and paintings that would fit better at Birmingham Palace rather than a bar, give this establishment a very unique vibe.
The warm light, juxtaposed with the shadowy vibe that the establishment exudes set a very peculiar mood. Savile Row engulfs you. That is if you’re not engulfed by the sheer number of spirit collection hang on the wall. I checked and found out that this place offers 400 whiskeys, 60 rums, 50 tequilas and 40 gins. Mind-boggling ain’t it!
To contact its team, use their Facebook and Instagram handles. You may find them on their website.

4.The Boom Boom Room
I dare you to say the name out loud without laughing! No, I speculate that the hilarious name is a reference to Ray Gibson’s dream bar in Eddie Murphy’s comedy film Life. That aside, The Boom Boom Room, is truly something out a dream.
From the deep soulful live music to the dark vibe, this bar is perfect for those who simply want to unwind. What of their beverages? Their music-themed cocktail menu is also a must-try.
Address: 49 Elizabeth St, Brisbane City QLD 4000, Australia
Phone Number: (07) 3243 4800

5. Mr Pecivals
I don’t about you, but for me, the sound of water is therapeutic. I was therefore very keen to include Mr Percivals in this list. Why do you ask? Because, not only does Mr Percival overlook Brisbane River, it is actually on top of it? Imagine that!
As for the bar’s mood, I would term it as very light and Mediterranian inspired. Although this watering hole is primarily for those who want to unwind with a drink- whatever your choice, they also have great food. And for beer, I’m glad to inform you that Mr Percivals uses local craft beer from its colleague Felons. So whether you’re there for wine, cocktails or beer, this bar may be the perfect place for you.

6. South Bank Beer Garden
I had to include a beer garden. Not just because they tend to be a perfect spot for weekend drinking, but also for because of their rich history dating back to the early nineteenth century. South Bank Beer Garden has an amazing beach vibe. It overlooks the beach and Brisbane River.
This particular venue is perfect for beer lovers, food lovers or both! The beer offered is South Bank’s own craft brew. They have a small brewery.
Address: 30ba Stanley St Plaza, South Brisbane QLD 4101, Australia

7. Netherworld
Food, beverages and games- that’s what Netherworld is all about. This interactive bar is highly recommended for those to who winding down must also involve an arcade game or two. Food is aplenty and decent. For beverages, expect local craft beer, a wine bar for wine lovers and of course cocktails as well.

8. Eleven Rooftop Bar
Arguably the King of Brisbane’s rooftop bars, Eleven Rooftop Bar is an amazing watering hole. It offers all alcoholic beverages you’d expect from a top-notch bar. Expect craft beers, and international brands too, wine and all. What of the mood, laid back. And the view as you might imagine is to die for. You get a panoramic view of the whole city including the famous story bridge.

9. Death & Taxes Brisbane
Death & Taxes is located on Brisbane’s oldest laneway- and I think it’s for a reason. When you walk through the establishment’s double doors, you get the feeling that you’ve momentarily been granted a reprieve from real life. Instead, you are transported back an atmosphere reminiscent of the underground bars of London and Paris, where you have a selection of more than 1000 spirit bottles at your disposal. That and craft beer of course as well cocktails a-plenty.
